athenahealth Marketplace Certified

Already on athenahealth?
Steer bolts on in 14 days.

Steer is the AI workforce for athenahealth practices. Luna answers every call, AI Front Door runs patient access, SteerNotes drafts your clinical notes, Revenue Cycle AI closes your claims. All of it running inside your existing athena stack. No rip. No replace. No new EHR.

What "Marketplace Certified" actually means

Native across your full athena stack.

Not a thin API connector. Steer reads and writes bidirectionally across every product in the athenahealth suite. Every action is structured. Every action is logged in athenahealth exactly the way your team expects to see it.

athenaCollector

Scheduling + billing, bidirectional.

Steer reads your schedule templates, provider preferences, and payer rules. Writes new bookings, reschedules, cancellations, and patient balances back to athena in real time.

Reads: Templates, availability, payer rules, balances
Writes: Bookings, reschedules, payments
athenaClinicals

Structured notes. No attachments.

SteerNotes files SOAP notes, ICD 10 and CPT codes, and care plans directly into the patient chart. Structured data, not a PDF uploaded to a folder. Your providers sign off inside athena.

Writes: SOAP, codes, care plans, patient instructions
athenaCommunicator

Confirmations, reminders, follow ups.

Steer routes every patient communication through athenaCommunicator. Appointment confirmations, reminders, care gap outreach, balance recovery. All tracked in one patient record.

Writes: SMS, email, patient portal messages
Real-time eligibility

Verified before the booking lands.

Steer runs eligibility checks through athena's payer rules at the moment of booking, not a day later. Copay, deductible, prior auth status: all captured and written back before the patient hangs up.

Uses: athena payer rules, real-time 270/271
Patient Portal

Handoffs that don't drop context.

When a patient calls and their portal has the answer, Steer points them there. When the portal can't resolve it, Luna picks up. Same patient thread. Same context. No phone tree between them.

Flow: Portal ↔ Luna ↔ Front desk
Deployment

Marketplace procurement, ready.

Contract through the athenahealth Marketplace. SSO through your existing athena identity. No new vendor onboarding paperwork. No separate implementation team needed on your side.

Includes: Marketplace billing, SSO, BAA standard
How deployment actually goes

14 days from contract to live in production.

Three weeks, not three quarters. Because your athena stack is already set up correctly, Steer plugs in, doesn't rebuild. Here is what actually happens.

D0
Day 0
Contract signed

Procurement through the athenahealth Marketplace. BAA standard. Your IT team does nothing.

D3
Day 3
Configured on your data

Steer is configured on your schedule templates, provider preferences, payer rules, and brand voice.

D7
Day 7
Shadow mode

Luna listens to real calls, drafts responses, but doesn't act. You review what she would have done.

D14
Day 14
Live on every line

Luna takes inbound calls 24/7. Outbound campaigns ramp from week 3. Your staff focuses on exceptions only.

The first agent for athena practices

Start with Luna. Add the rest of the workforce when ready.

Most athenahealth practices start with Luna, the voice agent. She handles every inbound and outbound call, books directly into athenaCollector, and pays for herself inside the first quarter. The rest of the workforce can follow.

Luna for athenahealth

The voice that never drops a call.

Luna answers every call, even at 2 AM. She identifies the patient, pulls their athena record, runs eligibility, books into your schedule, and collects copay. Your front desk handles only what escalates.

Straight answers

What athena practices actually ask.

Do we need to change anything in athenahealth?

No. Steer plugs into your existing athena setup. We read your schedule templates, payer rules, and patient records. We write bookings, notes, and claims back into athena in the format your staff already uses. Nothing about how you work inside athena changes.

What exactly does Steer read and write?

Reads: Patient demographics, insurance, schedule templates, provider preferences, care gap lists, outstanding balances, appointment history. Writes: New bookings, reschedules, cancellations, SOAP notes (structured, not PDF attachments), ICD and CPT codes, eligibility checks, copay collections, patient communications through athenaCommunicator.

Can we pilot Luna alone before adding the rest?

Yes. Most athena practices start with Luna. 90-day pilot available, cancel any time. After the pilot, you can add AI Front Door (patient access + ED triage), SteerNotes (clinical documentation), or Revenue Cycle AI on the same contract, same brain, same patient thread. No second procurement cycle.

How does this affect our athenahealth support or contract?

It doesn't. Your athenahealth relationship is unchanged. Steer is a separate vendor. Steer support comes from Steer. athena support comes from athena. The BAA with Steer is independent of your athena BAA. Your athenahealth fees do not change.

What happens when a call needs a human?

Luna escalates. Every practice configures when and how: by call type, by patient, by time of day, by urgency. When a call escalates, it routes to your front desk with full context: who called, why, what Luna has already tried. Your staff picks up a handoff, not a cold call.

Do our providers need to do anything?

Essentially no. Your providers keep practicing the way they do today. When SteerNotes is active, they see draft SOAPs ready for review in their athenaClinicals inbox. They edit, sign, move on. When Luna or Revenue Cycle AI are active, providers see no change to their workflow. Everything happens before and after the visit.

Is there a minimum contract length?

The 90-day pilot can be cancelled any time. After the pilot, annual contracts are standard. Marketplace customers can elect to be billed through athena monthly. Multi-year contracts earn preferred pricing and faster agent rollouts.

What size practice works?

Steer is in production at athena practices from 3-provider ambulatory groups to 150-provider specialty networks. The smaller the practice, the faster the ROI on Luna, because every missed after-hours call costs more as a share of total volume. There is no minimum provider count.
